Okay, wow, warning, tearjerker ahead! This book was such an intense rollercoaster ride of emotions from the beginning pages to the end. The relationship between Emily and Derrick was so intense and sad and frustrating, and really captured the struggles they faced throughout the years with fame, secrets, love, addictions, and loss. This book was so easy to get into from the intriguing opening where we see that Emily is in trouble, and I didn’t want to put it down until I was all done.
To make a story stand out from the heavily-populated romance crowd you need interesting characters, unique backstories, and unpredictable twists of fate – all which are on display nicely here. All too often I read works in this genre that lack any sort of ‘risk taking’ or ‘unusual events’, so when something this original comes along it is a refreshing change of pace! I went through so many highs and lows, but overall it delivered a powerful read that I won’t soon forget. 5 Stars

“Pearl” is the first book I’ve read From Karleen Staible. It is an incredible story and this book is the best I’ve read in a long time!! Highly recommend to anyone that likes to read, no matter the genre. It’s contemporary, relatable, has characters that bring out all the feels, weaves a story similar to the big screen only better and worthy of your time & imagination.
I’m in tears writing this review. Tears of sorrow for the lives lost in our modern society that are so similar. Tears for the courageous characters within the book and within myself for finding the fight within when life gets unbearably hard. This is such a great story, fantastic writing and it will stick with me for quite awhile. Wish I could get the word out how wonderful a read this book is. I’m excited to read more by Karleen Staible and highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a 5-Star read
